Dear Friends and Family,

We can't believe that the Jasper Johnson Memorial Golf Outing is just a month away!

This year is shaping up to be a great event and we already have a bunch of great folks registered to play, but there are still plenty of player spots and sponsorship opportunities available!

We wanted to take a quick moment to showcase just a couple of the many projects funded by The Children's Heart Foundation that are so important to the advancement of Congenital Heart Defect research and awareness.

For 2010-2011, The Children's Heart Foundation has awarded over a half a million dollars for projects all over the country including work being done right here in Boston.

One local project is by Dr. Jane Newburger, who is studying the effects of brain development of adolescents with d-transposition of the great arteries. These findings present a unique and important opportunity to better understand the relationship among regional brain gray matter anatomy, regional white matter microstructure and neurodevelopmental function in teenagers with dTGA

Dr. Newburger's study will help us further understand brain development in CHD survivors into adulthood and how to improve treatment to enhance their quality of life.

Another interesting project is the “Creation of a Visual Encyclopedia Illustrating the Terms and Definitions of The International Pediatric and Congenital Cardiac Code, a system of nomenclature developed by The International Society for Nomenclature of Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease.” by Dr. Jeffrey Phillip Jacobs of the Congenital Heart Institute in Florida.

This web-based visual encyclopedia will be free to access and will create tools that will support future research in multiple domains.

The website will also give The Children’s Heart Foundation considerable exposure in the academic and clinical communities of professionals caring for patients with CHD. The Children’s Heart Foundation logo and hyperlink will be prominently displayed on the home page to acknowledge their support of this project.
